It’ll be interesting to see if Toronto tangueras migrate back to a broader heel, particularly at upcoming events such as the Toronto Tango Festival, Milongueando Toronto and The Toronto Tango Experience when they have to spend more time on their heels than off them.
Lisadore.com is an online store based in The Netherlands which sells only Comme Il Faut and has the biggest selection I’ve seen. I bought a pair of shoes from them last year and it was all good – except for the final cost which only became evident when I received an invoice from the Canada Border Services Agency for duties, taxes and customs brokerage fees several months later by which time the shoes were already scuffed.
As always, I recommend the Toronto Tanguera’s first line of attack in tango shoes should be Elizabeth at her Rhythm&Motion Studio. Not only are you sure of the price, you can actually try them on before you buy them! I bought my last pair at a recent Milonga Portena where Elizabeth always has her shoes on display. Uncertain whether a slingback would give adequate support, both Linda and Elizabeth shared their experiences with that style and analysed me walking in the shoes – a far call from the online experience.

I have just bought a pair of the Maraton shoes in 6.5cm heel. The padding is not actually soft to touch, it is shock-absorbing which is really comfortable on the ball-of-foot area. They are stable and the heel is well-balanced. The suede sole provides good traction on modern smooth floors – not as slippy as leather can be. Expensive but for me it is worth it for the comfort factor and the style says “1940′s” rather than “practice shoe”.
