If you didn’t make it to La Cachila Sunday night, you missed a big love-in with Nelson Avila&Madalyn, Roxana&Fabian and the crowd who sucked up every moment.
Yesterday’s pre-milonga class was the first to be offered by Nelson Avila and Madalyn during their eight-day visit to Toronto which is presented by United Tango Movement in partnership with La Coqueta and La Cachila. The couple, who were teaching in Toronto earlier this year, will be teaching at La Coqueta (Thursday), a three-hour master class (Saturday) and again at La Cachila (Sunday).
Although there were only 30 dancers around 9 p.m., the number of dancers had easily doubled by the time Fernando – the smoothest of Toronto tango MCs – hauled that industrial microphone cable across the floor to announce the guests.
To everyone’s delight, Roxanne and Fabian had come to La Cachila to hang with Nelson and Madalyn so between them the couples put on quite the show. First up a costumed cabaret number by N&M with Madalyn in drag! followed by other unchoreographed demos from both couples, alone and together. Fabian talked about his early days in Buenos Aires when Nelson was his stage tango hero, and best of all, Fabian played his bandoneon.

Nelson and Madalyn are also teaching at Princess Milonga in Waterloo from 8 to 9 pm on Friday November 11. Milonga follows until 11:30. For anyone who feels like making the drive, this will be a chance to work with the maestros in a smaller group. Welcome one and all.
